Cervical Laminoplasty/Laminectomy and Stabilization

This procedure is done for patients with cervical myelopathy a condition which is caused because of severe compression of spinal cord in the neck. It causes severe tightness or paralysis in hands and legs affecting patient’s normal day to day activity and become dependent on family members. In severe cases patient may become bed ridden or wheel chair bound. It involves surgery from back of neck for removal of bone pressing the spinal cord with or without screws and rods. This causes increase in diameter of the spinal canal and relieves the pressure on spinal cord. Post-surgery patients usually are able to manage activities of daily living independently.
